Beckett grads' top tips for Freshers

FreshersNews

The start of uni is right around the corner, and while it’s a super exciting time, it’s also a really big step. So, to help make sure you’re prepared, we asked some of Beckett’s newest graduates what advice they would give to this year’s Freshers. Here’s what they had to say!

Of course, uni work is super important to prioritise! The grads shared top tips for keeping on top of your course work:

“Start early with work”

“Get your diss title ready before anything else”

“Don’t leave your work ‘til the last minute. Just do it when you get it and you’ll be sound.”

“Do as much as you can, but don’t forget to study because if you fall behind, you’re never catching up.”

One of the really great things about uni is the chance to meet loads of new people, and getting involved in societies and sports is a great way to do that! With loads of groups to choose from, there’s something for everyone and Beckett grads definitely recommended getting involved:

“Make the most of all the societies and sports clubs. Just go for it!”

“Join a social union. Join anything you can – sport or not, get involved! If someone asks you if you want to do it, just say yes and go for it because it’s going to be way more fun than you think it’s going to be.”

“Just throw yourself into anything that’s offered to you.”

“Take up every opportunity there is.”

You can browse all of our current student societies here. If you don't see anything you love, don't worry. You can create your own society too!

While uni can be a lot of hard work, it’s also important to have fun! Leeds has an incredible nightlife and there’s loads to explore in the city. Here’s what the grads had to say:

“Don’t say no to going out.”

“Live in Pryzm every weekend. Get in Pryzym every single weekend! Go, you’ll enjoy yourself.”

Whether you’re wanting to check out Leeds’ best nights or looking for some on-campus activities to try out, check out our What’s On page! There’s loads of events and activities coming up from sports tasters to day trips and so much more. Plus, don’t forget to come to our Freshers Fairs! With lots of stalls and student groups, they’re a fantastic way to check out everything the Students’ Union has to offer. You can meet societies, find out about your student leaders, bag some freebies and more!

The Freshers Fairs run over three days, 18, 19 (City Campus) and 20 (Headingley Campus) September. We can’t wait to see you there!
