It’s National Vegetarian Week and to celebrate we’re rounding up some of the top veggie and vegan options in Leeds!

Whether you’re trying to reduce your meat consumption a little or you’re a veteran vegan, Leeds is home to a stunning array of tasty veggie-led menus. From a classic brunch to junk food to street food and more, there’s loads on offer.

If you don’t know where you start, here’s a few of our top picks:

Döner Summer

10-12 Call Lane, LS1 6DN

Looking to get your fast-food fix? Located in the City Centre, Döner Summer specialises in vegan junk food – from kebabs to burgers to fried chick'n sandwiches.

They’re also available for takeaway, making this the perfect late night post pub quiz meal!

Bundobust

6 Mill Hill, LS1 5DQ

Bundobust has an amazing menu chock full of Indian street food that’s entirely vegetarian and vegan! With smaller plates on the menu, this is the perfect place to go to try out lots of different dishes. Plus, they also offer a great variety of craft beer!

They’re open seven days a week and are also available for takeaway. Win-win!

Cantina at The Old Red Bus Station

The Old Red Bus Station, 101 Vicar Lane, LS2 7NL

Who doesn’t love some good diner food? Cantina is the place to be if you’re looking for diner-style comfort food. Think delicious bar bites, mouth-watering loaded fries, burgers and show-stopping desserts like fried oreos. Yum!

FINT

73 Great George Street, LS1 3BR

While FINT isn’t an entirely vegetarian or vegan menu, they have loads of great options and there’s a little something for everyone. Pop along for some refined and seasonal Scandinavian-inspired food in a light and airy Nordic style space!

The Falafel Guys

Outside Marks and Spencer, 47 Briggate, LS1 6HF and SALT, 27-26 East Parade LS1 2AJ

Looking for a quick lunch? The Falafel Guys have two locations – one sit-down eatery and another food truck that’s great for a grab and go lunch. They’re a perfect option if you’re in the mood for some homemade falafel that’s toasted until it’s golden and nestled in a Mediterranean wrap with all the fixings! Think hummus, tahini and halloumi – oh my!

Laynes Espresso

16 New Station Street, LS1 5DL

Of course, we had to include a classic coffee and brunch place, and Layne’s Espresso is the perfect spot. This bright yellow independent coffee shop boasts an impressive brunch menu with plenty of veggie and vegan options. With sweet and savoury treats to pair with a specialty oat latte, this spot is a great way to kick off a sunny day exploring Leeds. We couldn’t help but notice the wild mushroom brioche and salted peanut butter bundt on the menu... yum!

Hyde Park Book Club

27- 29 Hyde Park Lane, LS6 1BL

Hyde Park Book Club has a totally vegetarian menu that's packed with amazing eats like curried scrambled tofu and breakfast burritos, plus loads of vegan options too! Its chill vibes and deli-feel make this an easy favourite. Plus, they're open late with an evening menu filled with delicious mains and small plates! What's not to love?

Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen

Cross Belgrave Street, LS2 8JP

Head down to Belgrave's Music Hall and Canteen to sample some delicious veggie and vegan food from their two current kitchen residents: Dough Boys and Patty's Burgers! If you're looking for homemade sourdough pizza, Dough Boys, is your choice with lots of veggie and vegan options on the menu. If you're after a hearty burger, Patty's Burgers offer some amazing eats like Patty's Plant Smash and their Kernel Burger, with a sweetcorn and courgette spiced patty. Plus, they offer free chips with any burger from 12-5pm Monday to Friday!

Of course, don’t forget to check out The Hive during term time! We have a separate veggie and vegan menu and, with loads of affordable choices, it’s the perfect place to grab a bite to eat between lectures or a study session in the library!
