Feeling lonely at uni? You're not alone

Whether you’re a new or returning student, feeling lonely is a common experience amongst many students, and it can be hard on your mental health. This World Mental Health Day we want you to know that LBSU is here for you, and we have lots of opportunities for you to meet new people, make friends and find your community.

We know how important it is for you to feel a sense of belonging here at Leeds Beckett, however if you’re experiencing feelings of loneliness during your time at university, just know that you’re not the only one.

Whether you’re a new or returning student, feeling lonely is a common experience amongst many students, and it can be hard on your mental health. This #WorldMentalHealthDay we want you to know that LBSU is here for you, and we have lots of opportunities for you to meet new people, make friends and find your community ??

If you’re ready to put yourself out there, you can join a society, student community or volunteer with a student-led group! Or if you’re not quite ready to commit, or feeling nervous about getting involved, you can try something new this term with our Give It A Go events ?? If you can’t find the society or group for you, then get in touch and we’ll help you start your own.

We also have spaces that our students can book for free to host socials and events in, so that you’ll always have a space to connect with each other, without having to worry about it breaking the bank ??

Be sure to look out for one another too - now more than ever, it's important to be mindful of those around us, and to keep the needs of others in mind. If you think a friend or peer is struggling, reach out. Give them a text to check in, invite them to your next society meet up, or simply offering to be a friendly face to turn to during a time of need can go a long way!
